Have you ever had a non-family member show up to live with you for a while? Iris struggles with having an unexpected housemate the whole time。 Her method of dealing with it will surprise you。The book moves along at a slow burn until Paris starts killing off characters。 The epilogue makes for a wild ending。Fans of Paris’s previous books will enjoy this one 。。。more

This is very different from her usual books, but no less compelling。 More of a slow burn novel of domestic suspense, the book surrounds two couples who have been friends for 2 decades。 When one couple is on the outs, the scorned wife comes to stay with the other couple。 And perhaps she overstays her welcome。。。But that's only the beginning。 There are plenty of secrets to be unveiled across this book and one killer twist。Full review to come。 This is very different from her usual books, but no less compelling。 More of a slow burn novel of domestic suspense, the book surrounds two couples who have been friends for 2 decades。 When one couple is on the outs, the scorned wife comes to stay with the other couple。 And perhaps she overstays her welcome。。。But that's only the beginning。 There are plenty of secrets to be unveiled across this book and one killer twist。Full review to come。 。。。more

I enjoyed the hint of suspense that keeps you reading through to the end and the conflict connecting the cast of characters in various ways。 Overall, it is a well-plotted storyline with interesting twists。 However, some of what's revealed toward the end would have been more impactful if more hints were sprinkled throughout。 I enjoyed the hint of suspense that keeps you reading through to the end and the conflict connecting the cast of characters in various ways。 Overall, it is a well-plotted storyline with interesting twists。 However, some of what's revealed toward the end would have been more impactful if more hints were sprinkled throughout。 。。。more

No! He proceeds to keep him on because he's going to let him finish the job since he's leaving in a few weeks after the christianing of the baby。 I just don't get it。。。why? Who cares。 Gabriel was so upset about this death of Charlie and worried so much about Maggie it seems out of place that he would keep this guy on and pay him for his work when he was responsible for the death of this kid。 Beth is sleeping with Joseph - that's why she's been missing so much。 Joseph and his amazing body & penis。Omg now Joseph is dead。 Is there any characters left for the book??? 4 deaths in this book。 4!Omg。。。。。。。。 Get out of here that Iris is the mother of Pierre's child。 What a stupid and convoluted ending。 So Iris just went around killing people to protect the identity of who her child's father was。 How does DNA never exist in these thrillers? Is there no paper trail either or CCTV? I mean they went out to eat together。 Did the detectives do nothing to try and find out who killed Pierre? Like they just accepted that this man was dead and his basement next to a chainsaw and that was it。 I just don't know how she wouldn't have somehow left a paper trail that she went his house on a train。 Like her phone record when she sent the text that thing there。 Anything! Then we get this like stupid boring rundown of the ending and how she killed all these people and what she thought and I didn't care and is this book over yet?And of course of course Lori was able to figure out that Beth is Pierre's kid。Final Thoughts: Certain parts and actions of the characters bothered me I felt like they didn't match what the author had written about the characters in the beginning of the book, so by the time we got to the middle of the book their actions seemed off。 Like Gabriel being okay with keeping Joseph on after finding out he was responsible for the death of Charlie seemed out of character for who Gabriel is as a person。You know what I hate? I hate books that put me in the pov of the person that turns out being the Killer but through the whole thing they never once think about anything that leads them to being the murderer。 Their whole tree of thought is like who killed this person why would they kill this person but really they're the person that kills them。 It doesn't make any sense。 If you're the Killer and you do kill someone you're not going to be wondering the whole time oh I wonder who was the killer or what happened。Book was going until that over the top soap opera ending that made zero sense to anything I had just spent 300 pages reading。 IG| BlogThanks to Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for this advanced copy of the book。 All thoughts and opinions are my own。 。。。more

The twist the epilogue brought was great! The ending threw me! I did not see it coming at all! I love me a good jaw dropping twist! A great way to end the book。 It was just what the ending needed。 *chef's kiss*This is my second BA Paris book。 The first was Behind Closed Doors。 She has a way with words—a way to keep you interested until the very last page。 I admire any author who can deliver such a great twist。 I look forward to venturing into more of her work! The audiobook is performed well。 The voice acting and tempo were both excellent。 The narrator has a voice that just seems so elegant。 It made the story come to life and gave a great depiction of each character。 Emily gave an outstanding performance。Thanks to the author, St Martin's Press, Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for the ARC and audio copy。 。。。more

We begin with Iris and Gabriel returning home from holiday to find an unexpected guest。 Laure has used the spare key she has, has let herself in, and made herself at home。 She wasn't expecting them home for another night but Gabriel didn't really fancy the stopover they had planned to break up the drive home, he has other things on his mind。 You see, he was the one who found a young man almost dead in the nearby quarry and stayed with him until he passed, the only witness to his final words。 Any We begin with Iris and Gabriel returning home from holiday to find an unexpected guest。 Laure has used the spare key she has, has let herself in, and made herself at home。 She wasn't expecting them home for another night but Gabriel didn't really fancy the stopover they had planned to break up the drive home, he has other things on his mind。 You see, he was the one who found a young man almost dead in the nearby quarry and stayed with him until he passed, the only witness to his final words。 Anyway, back to Laure。。。 she has rocked up as her husband Pierre has admitted that he found out recently that he has a child by another woman and, not being able to handle it - as they are a childless couple, her being the one that wanted them - ran away。 And so begins a rather strange tale, full of weirdness and, well, bonkers behaviour。 Especially when a new couple moves in, bringing their strange gardener with them。 And then there's a death, a murder。 And the ante is most definitely upped。 I have a bit of a hit and miss relationship with this author。 Mostly hits。。。 but I think this one lies towards the miss, although I never thought it too much to ever even contemplate ditching it, my eyes did get a rather good workout with the amount of rolling they did! It's all a bit, well, incredible at times。 Iris and Gabriel were a bit on the wet blanket side initially, and that did annoy me and, as for Laure, well。 To be honest, Pierre was better off without her!And then we have Gabriel who has blatantly lied about a kid's last words to his mother。。。 throwing him into mental turmoil but I'll leave you to follow that thread yourself。 Throw in Esme and much older husband Hugh, with their gardener Joseph and you complete the eclectic cast。 This trio brings a whole new layer of weird to the overall story。As I said, this one was a bit too much for me。 All the threads do come together satisfactorily at the end but the destination was totally worth the journey(s) getting there。 Probably didn't help that I don't really have anything positive to say about any of the characters so I wasn't really of a mind to care much about them。 But, all that said, it did mostly hold my attention and I did get through it without much hassle, eye rolling aside。 Obviously with the author's back catalogue to compare with, maybe my expectations were too high going in。 Or maybe it just wasn't for me。 My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book。 。。。more

There were twists and turns that the epilogue summed up nicely。 It is a story about three couples。 The newest couple has a friend who enters the fray。 There is one hell of an annoying houseguest that I would have kicked out after the first week, Laure。 Laure is the most sorry and unsavory character of the lot。 The fact her husband fathered an illegitimate child does not make you feel any sympathy whatsoever。 There is a lot of drama between the couples in some way。 If you like dramas, mysteries that need to be solved, and characters you love to hate, then you'll love this book。 I will be reading other books of B。A。 Paris, as the ending, made it all worth it。 。。。more

Let me start by saying that I'm a big fan of BA Paris'。 I happily read my way through her bibiiography and will continue to do so。 With that said, "The Guest" is less of a psychological thriller and more of a slowburn。 I won't say more, for fear of spoilers, but I was surprised at the relative quietness of this book。 It speaks more to range than anything, but it felt like a departure。 My criticisms really come with the audiobook, which I was lucky enough to receive as an ARC。 The chapters aren't Let me start by saying that I'm a big fan of BA Paris'。 I happily read my way through her bibiiography and will continue to do so。 With that said, "The Guest" is less of a psychological thriller and more of a slowburn。 I won't say more, for fear of spoilers, but I was surprised at the relative quietness of this book。 It speaks more to range than anything, but it felt like a departure。 My criticisms really come with the audiobook, which I was lucky enough to receive as an ARC。 The chapters aren't divided by time, so it was sometimes hard to keep up with when things were happening。 The characters would talk about doing something and sometimes that thing would happen in the next chapter and sometimes it wouldn't happen until much later。 This was likely more disconcerting in an audiobook than in a physical copy。 My biggest problem, however, and the one that nearly ruined the experience for me, was that the narrator sounds exactly the same throughout。 So, not only do Iris and Esme sound the same, but so do Iris and Hugh and Gabriel。 There is a large cast of characters and I rarely knew who was speaking to whom。 The Guest: 4 starsThe audiobook: 2。5 stars 。。。more

Thank you NetGalley for giving me an early audio copy of this book。It was fairly entertaining, I do think some of the mundane tasks could have been cut out。 I felt like it dragged for a while。 The epilogue and its explanations were definitely a fun part。 But I did see it coming to an extent。

A good thriller with plenty of twists。 A slow start but builds up nicely to a stunning climax。 Iris and Gabriel come home from holiday to find their friend Laure from France in their home having left her husband。 Good plot that will keep you hooked。 Emily Joyce does a superb narration of this book。 Thank to Hodder and Stoughton and Netgalley for this audio ARC

Wow! This book was so good! It is the type of thriller I can not get enough of, full of twists I didn't see coming。 Plus the writing drew me immediately into the story and I did not want to put it down。Iris and Gabriel have gone on holiday to try to reconnect after Gabriel discovered a young neighbor that had an accident and was the recipient of his last words。 Gabriel has been struggling and distant since that day。 They come home from holiday a day early to discover their friend Laure。 She has Wow! How long will the guest stay? What other secrets are they hiding? Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a copy for my honest review 。。。more

A house guest that just won't leave。。。aka my worst nightmare。 I have been a longtime fan of B。A。 Paris and her work and I was so excited to receive an ARC of The Guest。 This domestic drama seriously had me sucked into the drama of these people and their lives。 Iris and Gabriel's friend Laure has just separated from her husband Pierre and has come to stay with them。 She certainly is overstaying her welcome。 There are other characters, new neighbors down the road Esme and Hugh and Joseph, a friend A house guest that just won't leave。。。aka my worst nightmare。 I have been a longtime fan of B。A。 Paris and her work and I was so excited to receive an ARC of The Guest。 This domestic drama seriously had me sucked into the drama of these people and their lives。 Iris and Gabriel's friend Laure has just separated from her husband Pierre and has come to stay with them。 She certainly is overstaying her welcome。 There are other characters, new neighbors down the road Esme and Hugh and Joseph, a friend who of course is a little shady。 There were times that I was frustrated by the characters and their day to day actions that parts of the book felt slow to me when I really just wanted to find out how all these characters were connected to each other。 But there was just the right amount of intrigue that I needed to know! The ending is wrapped up nicely, and I do prefer an ambiguous ending HOWEVER if you like things wrapped neatly in a bow, this would be perfect for you! I was surprised and it almost made me want to go back and reread parts of the book。 All in all, I'm landing at 4 stars for this one! If you are looking for a slow burn domestic thriller check this one out! Thank you so much to NetGalley for my ARC。 The Guest is out 2/20! 。。。more

The Guest by B。A。 Paris is listed as a mystery/ thriller, I'd classify it as a domestic drama, emphasis on drama。 Married couple Gabriel and Iris return home from vacation to find their friend Laure at their home。 Laure claims her husband has a child with another woman, and she just needed to get away。 In support of their friend, Gabriel and Iris offer Laure to stay with them while she figures out the future of her marriage。 But as the days go by, things get odd, and secrets are revealed。。 albei The Guest by B。A。 Paris is listed as a mystery/ thriller, I'd classify it as a domestic drama, emphasis on drama。 Married couple Gabriel and Iris return home from vacation to find their friend Laure at their home。 Laure claims her husband has a child with another woman, and she just needed to get away。 In support of their friend, Gabriel and Iris offer Laure to stay with them while she figures out the future of her marriage。 But as the days go by, things get odd, and secrets are revealed。。 albeit slowly。 I usually love B。A。 Paris novels, but this one has much slower pace, and I wish there was more action to keep my interest。 The ending was satisfying, though, and worth the wait。 I was ready to give 2 stars for being an okay read, but the ending adds a star。 A good read, fun for those that like a slower burn and buildup。 Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for an opportunity to read and review honestly an advanced digital copy。 。。。more

Blijft een goede schrijfster maar vond dit boek echt minder。 Voorspelbaar en te langdradig voor mij。 Het einde was wel ijzersterk geschreven, ik vind boeken waarin de schrijver het einde verteld echt veel beter dan een open einde。
